NASCAR season is just weeks away: we rank the Top 25 fantasy racing drivers for you.
Last year Jamie McMurray finished 21st in points in the NASCAR Sprint Cup.
Sitting one spot above his Earnhardt Ganassi teammate Juan Pablo Montoya, McMurray is another guy primed for success. I have liked McMurray ever since his 2002 win at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. The 36-year-old was the 2003 Rookie of the Year and has posted two big-time wins at Daytona and the Brickyard. He is a guy that is talented enough to compete on a weekly basis, but has been outside of the winner’s circle the past two years. Having posted three wins in 2010, if McMurray sees a full run this year, he could definitely be a huge asset to the daily fantasy racing player.
Overall Points: McMurray bridged the 800 threshold, posting 868 points last year. McMurray had 4 DNFs and could have possibly moved up a lot in the standings if he had won at Talladega (he contended until he was wrecked by his teammate).
Wins: McMurray posted back-to-back no-win seasons for the first time since 2006. With his backing and a full slate, I think we should see a winner’s circle finish this year.
Top-10 Finishes: McMurray found the top-10 three times last year, and if it weren’t for unlucky mishaps probably would have doubled this total.
Laps Lead: McMurray led 53 laps last year with the majority coming at Talladega. This should also double this year.
Pole Position: McMurray failed to post a pole but has the ability to do so week in and week out. It will be interesting to see how he does at Daytona.
Team Strength: McMurray is in the same boat as Montoya. They have the backing and money with Earnhardt Ganassi, but ultimately, it will rely on his performance whether or not his team ends up successful.
McMurray is one of the “nice guys” of NASCAR. Every time I watch one of his interviews, he comes across as humble. This intrigues me because of the contrast you see with other drivers. From a daily fantasy racing standpoint, he is a guy that can be a contender, and with a good team and a prior winning history it is hard to pick against him if he fits the cap. I look for him to build on some of his unlucky spots last season and have a great daily fantasy racing season this year.
