Want to know which daily fantasy sports sites have the most players? Enter, DFR’s daily fantasy sites Poker Rankings!
Seems simple right? In a game in which stats are a huge factor why is there not a way for us to track how each of the sites are doing stacked up versus each other. Maybe it is the way most of them conduct their business, with the industry standard being to remove games that have filled from the lobbies. Is this best for you the player? Lets take a look back at something you all might remember, online poker. If you have never heard of online poker you must have been living under a rock. You are in luck though as it seems like we are getting closer to having it back in the United States.
Online poker never shut out the public eyes (railbirds) from watching anything. You could sit and watch the big name pros like Phil Ivey and Isldur1 battle it out over the highest stakes in the world. You couldn’t see their hole cards, but you could watch the action. This was a great way for people to try and learn from the best. Watching when hands went to showdown was a great way to catch a glimpse of the action. Having all games be transparent like this also allowed 3rd party sites to monitor the action and provide accurate reports on player numbers, at any given time.
The best example of this is PokerScout.com a site now renowned for its statistical online poker data. They keep a running tab on all the action online and rank each site based off of player traffic, something we earn for in daily fantasy sports. Until the sties start to operate more transparent we will have to make due with what information is public and that is 3rd party site rankings. We have chosen to use Alexa Rankings for our traffic baseline for ranking the sites in our daily fantasy sites power rankings, however other factors will come into play. Is a certain site running a massive guaranteed tournament? Is a site running massive amount of TV ads during the Superbowl? These type of factors will come into play when we rank all of the sites in our power rankings. Have we missed a site? If so shoot us an email by clicking contact us and let us know!
#1 DraftStreet USA Rank 6,470
Yes it’s DraftStreet. You might have thought the clear 1st place site would have been Fanduel, however recently (we have been watching the sites numbers for months) Draftstreet has taken the lead in the United States of America. What factors could be in play with this recent overtaking of first place? Well it could all be the recent investment by IAC aka InteractiveCorp. You can read about it here in the Wall Street Journal blog, and find more out about IAC here. Just to save you some time though, IAC has a great understanding of the internet with brands like About.com and Ask.com at their disposal.
#2 Fanduel USA Rank 8,366
Here we go, the guys you expected to be at the top of the list, Nigel Eccles and his team are still very much in the front running of owning the daily fantasy space. They have been slipping recently, dropping a few thousand spots since last time we checked (Alexa rankings), but expect to see them push hard with fantasy football only a few weeks away. They should be back at the top of our daily fantasy sites power rankings if nothing crazy happens.
#3 DraftKings USA Rank 28,029
It was not long ago that DraftKings would not even have been in the top 10 of the daily fantasy site power rankngs, but here we are with them sitting in 3rd place and only gaining ground each day. DraftKings seems to have the best handle on what the players want, the only thing they are missing is the promised VIP program. They too are looking to gear up for fantasy football and might jump ahead in the rankings from a massive guaranteed tournament. Who knows…
#4 DraftDay USA Rank 28,874
This is the closest battle in our daily fantasy sites power rankings. Both DraftDay and DraftKings lost big of late, a few thousand spots each. There is only a few hundred spots difference so its anyone’s game to take over that 3rd place slot. You will also notice that there is a large jump from 1-2 to the 3-4 rankings, and we know that DraftKings has their eyes on the 1st place spot. What does DraftDay have in store for this coming fantasy football season? Only time will tell, and we’ll be keeping a close eye on this race for 3rd in the industry!
#5 FantasyFeud USA Rank 73,676
The great white north (Canada) is home to FantasyFeud, and boy are they blasting up the rankings since we last checked! Moving up over 30K spots since out last analysis, what are they doing right? We are still looking, but traffic is pouring in and it’s not even Hockey season yet!
#6 FanThrowdown USA Rank 112,118
Another site making big moves this week is FanThrowdown. They have jumped up a staggering 60K spots since we last checked. They have been working hard to keep pushing forward and the new ownership group MGT has acquired Fantasy Sports Live, which most likely accounts for this recent surge up the power rankings!
#7 StarStreet USA Rank 114,391
They too have seen a huge jump as of recent weeks, with almost 30K spots taken. Proof that being able to win a trip to the exclusive Playboy Mansion for their fantasy baseball championship can drive traffic!
#8 DailyJoust USA Rank 243,289
We’re not sure what is going on over at DailyJoust, but they have dropped over 50K spots from the last time we checked out the rankings. Fantasy football season might be what the doctor ordered for them to make a push back up the standings!
#9 SportsTradex USA Rank 470,281
New site, new format. These guys are holding down the 9th spot on our daily fantasy site rankings and are looking to move up!
#10 Star Fantasy Leagues USA Rank 643,775
Another site which is new on the block, with big dreams! They have a great team in place and have committed to making a great platform for the daily fantasy sports player. Keep an eye on this western New York upstart.
