Are you new to NHL Daily Fantasy? Each day we will make sure to recap the important factors you need to know for winning NHL daily fantasy. Every site has different scoring systems however most award points for the following categories. Goals, Powerplay Goals, Assists, Powerplay assists, +/- and shots on goal. In future articles we will expand on the scoring system and how to find value in players, and how to become a winning NHL player.
The big news from last night was Joffrey Lupul of the Leafs fracturing his forearm after being hit by a slapshot from Dion Phaneuf. He’s out indefinitely and it’s a huge loss for Toronto. When healthy he is a top 10 forward. Also keep an eye on how this affects Phil Kessel, who has been playing extremely well despite not scoring yet.
Steve Sullivan put up a hat trick for the Coyotes in their win over Columbus. Sullivan is an extremely streaky player, so he is one to keep an eye on if he gets hot. If he does he’ll make an excellent value play. Goalie Mike Smith left the game early in the first period, and I encourage you continue monitoring this situation. If he is out for any length of time, Phoenix is in trouble.
Marian Gaborik also had a hat trick last night in the Rangers win over Boston. He’s an extremely talented player, though he has been injury prone in the past. If he can stay healthy, he will put up big numbers, especially on a line with Rick Nash and Brad Richards.
Corey Scheider bounced back with a solid performance in Vancouver’s win over Calgary. He is a solid goalie on a solid team. Also, Zack Kassian continued his good play to start the year. Both make excellent plays the right matchups.
James Van Riemsdyk scored a pair of goals in Toronto’s win over Pittsburgh. He should see increased ice time with the injury to Joffrey Lupul.
Looks like Ryan Miller is getting the night off for the Sabres in the first night of a back to back. Jhonas Enroth is expected to start tonight against Carolina. He was solid last year and could make a good play tonight against a struggling Hurricane squad
The Rangers got their first win last night in a big rivalry game. Will they suffer a letdown tonight against the Flyers? This is a game that I am avoiding as it should be a low scoring affair. The Flyers will be without Brayden Schenn as he sits out tonight while serving a one game suspension.
San Jose should roll tonight against Phoenix in their home opener, especially if Phoenix is without goalie Mike Smith. If Smith is out, it’s a good night to load up on Sharks.
Toronto will look to keep it going tonight with a home game against the Islanders. The Isles always seem to play well against Toronto. Look for Toronto to call up Matt Frattin to replace Joffrey Lupul. Frattin was playing well in the AHL, so he could make a sneaky play if you are desperate for a cheap forward.
St. Louis has been playing well to start the year. Forward Vladimir Tarasenko and Defenceman Kevin Shattenkirk have both been among the league leaders early in the season. No reason they can’t keep that going tonight.
