On a day that saw two of the best in the world miss their first cut in the New Year, we also saw a rookie sensation continue to be a rookie sensation.
Tiger and Rory were not very impressive, but Russ Henley (in his 5th Round of the year) carried Nike’s slack. Technically Tiger’s round wasn’t awful, but a 2 stroke penalty for an illegal drop caused his round to end at a 75. I am sure that this isn’t the way that Nike wanted their two superstars to start their first tournament of the season.
Nike has found success though, in their rookie star Russ Henley. Henley’s bag is full of Nike equipment that has carried him to his first win at the Sony and T-4 -8 first round at the Humana. As a fantasy golfer, this is a guy we definitely have to keep our eye on. Anybody that can post 5 rounds like Henley has is worth a definite look. What’s most important though is that he maintains a decent salary. In Pool leagues, like @BuzzDraft, he is worth a look weekly, but in salary leagues (@Fantazzle) we still have to assess value.
The first round of the Humana hurt a lot of fantasy golfers. The big names just didn’t have the impact round many of us expected. Right now there is a tie for 1st with Roberto Castro, James Hahn, and Jason Kokrak at -9 (remember how I told you numbers would go low, guess what…they have.) With the news about Phil Mickleson (Even on the Round) feeling under the weather I became a little worried about my teams. Fortunately by inserting @DailyFantasyRadio value picks, I don’t feel as bad coming up on the weekend. Stephen Ames, Harris English, and Brian Gay sit at -5; William McGirt and Pat Perez at -4 (all @DailyFantasyRadio value picks!)
One of the overall comprehensive picks, Brandt Snedeker is sitting at -5 with a good chance of making moves during the next couple of rounds. My one disappointment (Because we are open and honest here at DFR) is John Senden. Senden posted an Even first round. I know, you’re saying Even, that’s not that bad. Well, let me explain when you have to make 5 birdies to make up for the 5 bogeys that you made in a round; that Even isn’t that pretty.
Hopefully today some of the guys can right the ship. I also hope that our “value” picks can continue to produce and help us win some money this week!
