Last night in the NHL:
The star of the night was Roberto Luongo, who stopped all 24 shots he faced to earn the shutout for the Canucks. This looks like it could be the start of a goalie controversy in Vancouver. From a DFS perspective, and that’s really the only thing we really care about, he was the only relevant player in this game. However, the Looch’s sleeper pick, Zack Kassian did get a goal for the Canucks.
Ottawa put the smackdown on Montreal, as Craig Anderson was once again oustanding in the net. He is the best goalie in hockey and DFS right now. Offensively, there were no standouts as Ottawa got scoring from all their lines. Our sleeper pick, Mika Zibanejad, also picked up a power play goal.
Chicago finally lost a game, but it took a shootout to do it. Jonathan Toews had a goal and Marian Hossa had an assist. Edmonton took down Phoenix in overtime on a goal by Nail Yakupov, another one of Looch’s sleeper picks. Tonight was a really strange night as none of the stars did much from a DFS perspective. Hopefully you used our sleepers and were able to make some $$$$$$.
Washington @ Toronto:
Toronto is coming off a road win at Buffalo and if you know anything about Toronto, you know their chances of playing terrible tonight are very high. They also play better on the road and this game is in Toronto. On top of that, Washington always seems to play well against Toronto. All signs point to a fairly high scoring game. Alex Ovechkin should score at least one goal tonight, and I also think this is the night Phil Kessel finally scores.
Pittsburgh @ New York Rangers:
Pittsburgh is traveling to NY where the Rangers are 3-1 on the year. However, the Pens are 3-1 on the road this year so something has to give. Neither goalie has been playing very well to start the year, but I have much more faith in Henrik Lundqvist to put it together than I do in Marc-Andre Fleury. The stars on both teams should have good nights, especially the big 3 of the Rangers – Rick Nash, Brad Richards and Marian Gaborik.
Edmonton @ San Jose:
You know that I love the Sharks and tonight they get a tired Edmonton team. The Sharks will take a huge bite out of the Oilers this evening. Everybody talks about Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton of San Jose, but don’t forget about Joe Pavelski, he has scored in every game this year.
Picks for the night:
2. David Perron- The big left winger for St. Louis has 6 points in 6 games so far, including 4 points in 3 road games. He also has 20 points in 24 career games against Columbus.
3. Kyle Clifford- Winger for the LA Kings is also scoring at a point per game clip with 5 points in 5 games.
Here are some of the games that are worth checking out on various sites:
I am loving FanThrowdown, as they have something for everybody. They have lots of free games if you just want to get your feet wet, and also lots of heads up and 50/50′s games.
Draft Day has a ton of heads up games and 50/50′s. They have a $500 gpp with a $22 buy in called the Manic Moose, if you like those games. Also there’s a $300 gpp with a $5.50 buy in called the Mad Beaver.
Over on Draft Kings you definitely want to check out their nightly freeroll. It provides a great way to learn the game without any risk involved. I also like the NHL Dollar on Draft Kings.
Finally, Fantazzle has a hockey freeroll that is worth checking out tonight.
Now let’s all go win some $$$$$$!!!
